Protaras Cyprus - Information

Protaras, the tourist area of Paralimni, is just one hour's drive from Larnaca International Airport on the southeast coast of the island. Here in this idyllic resort one can find golden sandy beaches stretching from Cape Greco to the village of Paralimni boasting the fabulous Fig Tree Bay beach. Rugged cliffs complement the tiny bays overlooking the brilliance of the early morning sun as it slowly rises over the horizon, as if emerging from the crystal-clear waters of the sparkling blue-green Mediterranean.

It is here within this poetic scene that one can still choose between lounging at any of the luxurious hotels with their tempting swimming pools, or escaping to the quiet solitude of a lonely stretch of beach.

Explore this enchanting area a few miles inland and you will discover the delightfully scenic 'Valley of the Windmills' (wind powered water pumps) irrigating the surrounding fields, producing all kinds of fruits and vegetables.

Protaras has a delightful seafood menu, as you would expect from its many beachfront restaurants. It also offers an excellent choice of shops, supermarkets, souvenirs, Internet cafes, taverns, nightclubs and bars.

Many villas are available to rent in Protaras, mainly used throughout the summer months, available with or without private swimming pools. Purchasing property is a popular pastime too.

For families, Protaras is the ideal location with its beautiful golden beaches and a wide choice of water sports from water-skiing, scuba diving and sailing to cruising and windsurfing

The merry month of May blooms with all the excitement of the much-celebrated flower festival known as the "Anthestiria" - a gala procession of brilliant, flower-decked floats climaxing with a spectacular flower show. The festival of Kataklysmos (Whitsuntide or flood) marks the end of May with traditional songs, dances and lively water games on the beaches of Protaras. For several days in late June, music, dance and theatrical performances from around the world thrive at the International Arts Festival where an exciting new programme is offered daily.

Note: Protaras and Ayia Napa are very quiet in the winter months, being mainly populated in the tourist summer months.
